Fall Newsletter ~ October 2, 2000

Here are some important dates and events to keep in mind as we approach the start of another curling season:

Rice Lake Curling Camp — October 14th — October 15th

This two-day camp is conducted by USCA instructors and coaches and is designed for club curlers (18 or older) who want to improve their skills and knowledge of the game. The cost is $50 per person, and there is still space available. Please contact Larry Sharp at 715-234-4995 for more information or to sign-up.

Ice and Clubroom Set Up — October 15th to ????

We will begin making ice and setting up the club room on Sunday, October 15th at about 1pm. Work evenings will begin at 7pm each night. Please show up and help.

Fall General Meeting — Tuesday, October 17th at 7pm

All members are urged to attend this meeting to discuss the events planned for the coming season.

Open Houses — Thursday, October 26th at 7pm & Friday, October 27th at 7pm

Please bring your friends, relatives, co-workers, neighbors to one or both of the Open Houses. If you don’t have anyone to bring, please still plan to attend — we want a full clubroom and ice area! We will be doing a media "blitz" and will have flyers available at the Fall Meeting.

We will serve snacks and beverages at the Open Houses. Please bring veggie trays, chips, desserts, etc. We will also need greeters and people to help on the ice. Please call Chris McMahon if you can help.

League Start-Up / Dues

The start-up dates for each league is included in the calendar below. Here are this year’s chairpeople:

Please contact the League Chairperson to get signed up for the Leagues, especially if you cannot attend the league start-up night.

Here is the dues structure for the 2000-2001 season:

Returning Member: $130 ($100 membership + $30 for one league) + $30 each additional league

High School: $105 ($75 membership + $30 for one league) + $30 each additional league

New Members: $90 ($60 membership + $30 for one league) + $30 each additional league

*Juniors $25 for a member’s child/ $30 for non-member child

*The Junior dues will be collected by the Treasurer and $15 per participant will be returned to the juniors for food, beverages, etc.

Due are due no later than November 17th. Draft invoices are included with the newsletter for all returning members. These invoices are based on last year’s league participation. If you plan to change your leagues you can simply mark up the invoice and return it with your payment, or you can ask Chris McMahon for an updated invoice.

2001 Reverse Raffle

The Reverse Raffle will be held Friday, February 9, 2001 (the evening before the start of our Lumberjack Mixed Bonspiel). This year we will sell 300 tickets at $50.00 each. The ticket admits two people to our club on February 9th for a catered meal, drinks, and a chance to win up to $3,000. The $3,000 main prize is awarded to the last ticket drawn and $500 is awarded to the second to last ticket. Every 10th ticket drawn receives $100 and the 200th ticket drawn receives $200.

This is our major fundraiser of the year. Each member will be asked to try and sell 5 tickets and bring a dessert the night of the Raffle for the "dessert bar". Tickets will be available at the Fall Meeting and from League Chairpeople. Or, if you need tickets, please contact James Bauer (874-6416). Help will also be required on the evening of February 9th in order to make this raffle a success.

Junior Men’s and Women’s State Playdowns and Men’s State Playdowns

We will host the WSCA Junior Men’s and Women’s State Playdowns on December 27-30, 2000. Statewide teams will compete for spots at the USCA Junior Men’s and Women’s National Championships. We will also host the WSCA Men’s State Playdowns on January 18-21, 2001. Statewide teams will compete for a spot at the USCA Men’s National Championships and spots at the Men’s Second Chance Tournament.

The WSCA will pay the Eau Claire Curling Club $100/day ($800 for both events). In turn we must provide workers! We may sell food, drinks, and merchandise if we want. Chris McMahon is coordinating the Men’s Playdowns; we still need someone to coordinate the arrangements for the Junior Playdowns. We will need workers for each day of the tournaments. This is another good money-making opportunity for our club, and it is an excellent way to gain publicity for curling and the Eau Claire Curling Club.
